WEEK + DAY: week 39 day 5...two more days!
WEIGHT GAIN: 30 pounds. i found this site early on that helped set my expectations on healthy weight gain but your doctor's advice is your best guidance.
SYMPTOMS: so i totally understand this "lightening" sensation now. my back/sciatica pain has disappeared, hallelu. but its been replaced with some pressure, well, down there. but don't let the word "light" confuse you...i'm heavier than ever! my hips feel wider & looser which i am totally okay with. anything to help get this baby out more easily! at my exam last week, i measured 1cm dilated & 75% effaced. next appointment is on my actual due date this coming thursday. we'll see how much i've progressed in a week (assuming he stays put until then).
FOOD CRAVINGS: anything. i'm anywhere from a day to a week left in this so i'm not being strict! i just really NEED my last preggo fix of my favorite chinese restaurant.
FOOD AVERSIONS: nothing.
EXERCISE: still heading to the gym 4-5x a week & doing my 2-3 mile walk (3.0-3.5 mph with alternating incline levels) within an hour. i've been using the exercise ball a little more, doing some hip stretches & movements to get things warmed up ;) squatting creates so much pressure so i'm taking it slow & listening to my body. overall, feeling good & aim to keep going until early labor.
NEW DISCOVERY: oh the ways of natural induction. people have some weird ideas they swear by but I'm trying to be logical about what I can do to "propel" going into labor. trust me, you'll understand once you're thiiis close to the end. walking has been the easiest since it's already part of my routine. i'm also drinking hot organic raspberry leaf tea (ask your doc beforehand though), bought a nice size bottle of tapatio to spice things up & some pineapple (chunks as well as juice) which helps ripen things down under. been gently bouncing & rocking on my yoga ball to get things moving too. i have no idea if any of these will work but i guess it doesn't hurt right? :)
aside from induction methods, found this website called untilithappens.com where you can have friends & family enter guesses on baby's measurements, birthdate, etc. enter our baby pool here!
LESSONS LEARNED: be careful setting your expectations on when your baby will come. everyone has their opinion on when you'll go into labor. no. one. knows. don't get your hopes up & just take everything a day at a time...or else you'll be frustrated if you don't hit expectations.
pregnancy is 99% glam...not!
my linea nigra has darkened.
the skin where i had my naval pierced is insanely dark.
my navel has been out since week 22.
my booty is flatter than ever (what's a squat?).
i have ingrown hair & bumps all over my legs (at least i can still reach to shave my legs).
i have added some extra cottage cheese to my upper thighs (hello cellulite).
my [bigger] bras are tight around my upper ribs & leave marks on my skin by the end of the day.
i have two burn marks from pulling cookie trays out of the oven...on separate occasions (yup).
i am at a point where i am at peace with how my body has evolved.
it may have taken me quite some time mentally to get here, but i'm here. & i'm so happy to be.
i can confidently say that i love how i'm looking & am really proud of what my body is capable of.
I absolutely loved hosting my registry on babylist. it was a one stop shop for family & friends to check & see what items I needed, regardless of where the item was from. since some items are available on different stores for purchase, babylist lists all options with that store's price. you can simply add a "add to babylist" button on your browser bar & have a quick way to add items when you come across them. it is easy to categorize items & filter through what's been purchased, by store availability, etc. best of all, it solicits information from gifters asking for their name, email, store purchased & order number so i had a live "thank you" list to leverage later on for my thank you cards. another fun perk is the rewards they offer -- they provide discount codes from different stores & sites for your use. i also downloaded the app, simple & easy to use! click the babylist at the bottom of this post to get started!
WEEK + DAY: week 35 day 0
WEIGHT GAIN: 25 pounds! curious how much he weighs. will find out at our next appointment!
SYMPTOMS: sciatica is still keeping me up at night. I'm officially at the point where it's uncomfortable to sleep & not being able to breathe well isn't helping either. on the bright side, my swelling is under control & i'm still wearing my wedding rings :)
FOOD CRAVINGS: anything sounds good at this point lol. trying really hard to keep things under control!
FOOD AVERSIONS: nada.
EXERCISE: trying to give myself some grace, but it's been so hard making an effort to go to the gym. if i make it 3-4x a week, i'm happy! walking at a 5.0 incline // 3.0 speed for 45-60 min. light weight training includes stability ball exercises such as push-ups & pelvic tilts.
NEW DISCOVERY: yikes, nothing to report on.
FAVORITE BABY PURCHASES: my checklist is dwindling down. still have a few things from my registry that I need to buy, but they can wait until later...also we are slowly running out of storage in the nursery, ha!
FAVORITE MAMA PURCHASES: been researching postnatal belly bands & have decided to go with the bamboo Belly Bandit. have heard from multiple sources this is a great way to kick start getting things back into place. looking forward to seeing how quickly it helps. it's all packed & ready in my hospital bag -- will share my personal checklist soon :)
hope you had a wonderful christmas! (left) us at the SF ballet for the nutcracker with family (middle & right) i turned my cravings into gifts making sea salt dark chocolate bark with almonds, hazelnut & figs. had fun with simple packaging. so easy & fun!
WEEK + DAY: week 33 day 0
WEIGHT GAIN: 23 pounds!
SYMPTOMS: sciatica is starting to keep me up at night. my belly just feels heavier & heavier as the day passes. i purchased a maternity belt & it actually provides some relief. had some issues with congestion & breathing but the crane humidifier has helped immensely!
FOOD CRAVINGS: still sweets. lawd have mercy. trying to curb my overindulgence tendencies with healthier options during the week. honey nut cheerios or dates have done the trick. as well as sprinkling cinnamon on a cut up honey crisp apple & baking for 10 min. makes me feel like im having pie ;) but definitely still having my share of not-so-good-for-you desserts. still craving milk so been having cereal for dinner multiple times throughout the week...by cereal i mean mixing & matching different flavors to create my own melange.
FOOD AVERSIONS: no specific thing to call out...hallelu!
EXERCISE: definitely moving even slower these days. if im not tired or have achy pain, i head to the gym & walk for 2-3 miles. i still do some light body-weight exercises like push ups & pelvic tilts on the stability ball.
LESSONS LEARNED: we had our labor & birth class this past week. our instructor made us participate in the "ice" exercise where you hold a few cubes of ice in your hand for a minute -- the length of an active labor contraction. the first time was hard! then we walked through breathing techniques, movement, partner massages, etc all while holding ice for a minute at a time. it was actually pretty amazing to see how you can mentally focus away from the pain. good exercise to try at home.
FAVORITE BABY PURCHASES: can baby clothes shopping be an addiction? i cant stop. found some adorable & affordable purchases from old navy baby...who would of thought! a few items are below...altogether cost less than $40.
