WEEK + DAY: week 39 day 5...two more days!
WEIGHT GAIN: 30 pounds. i found this site early on that helped set my expectations on healthy weight gain but your doctor's advice is your best guidance.
SYMPTOMS: so i totally understand this "lightening" sensation now. my back/sciatica pain has disappeared, hallelu. but its been replaced with some pressure, well, down there. but don't let the word "light" confuse you...i'm heavier than ever! my hips feel wider & looser which i am totally okay with. anything to help get this baby out more easily! at my exam last week, i measured 1cm dilated & 75% effaced. next appointment is on my actual due date this coming thursday. we'll see how much i've progressed in a week (assuming he stays put until then).
FOOD CRAVINGS: anything. i'm anywhere from a day to a week left in this so i'm not being strict! i just really NEED my last preggo fix of my favorite chinese restaurant.
FOOD AVERSIONS: nothing.
EXERCISE: still heading to the gym 4-5x a week & doing my 2-3 mile walk (3.0-3.5 mph with alternating incline levels) within an hour. i've been using the exercise ball a little more, doing some hip stretches & movements to get things warmed up ;) squatting creates so much pressure so i'm taking it slow & listening to my body. overall, feeling good & aim to keep going until early labor.
NEW DISCOVERY: oh the ways of natural induction. people have some weird ideas they swear by but I'm trying to be logical about what I can do to "propel" going into labor. trust me, you'll understand once you're thiiis close to the end. walking has been the easiest since it's already part of my routine. i'm also drinking hot organic raspberry leaf tea (ask your doc beforehand though), bought a nice size bottle of tapatio to spice things up & some pineapple (chunks as well as juice) which helps ripen things down under. been gently bouncing & rocking on my yoga ball to get things moving too. i have no idea if any of these will work but i guess it doesn't hurt right? :)
aside from induction methods, found this website called untilithappens.com where you can have friends & family enter guesses on baby's measurements, birthdate, etc. enter our baby pool here!
LESSONS LEARNED: be careful setting your expectations on when your baby will come. everyone has their opinion on when you'll go into labor. no. one. knows. don't get your hopes up & just take everything a day at a time...or else you'll be frustrated if you don't hit expectations.
Less than a week left in this 40 week journey & my bags are all packed, ready to go! to be honest, they've been packed since i was 36 weeks along...you never know! given this is my first baby, i have no idea if i'm over/under-packing or missing essential items. i compiled & cross-checked lists i found on blogs, had pinned via pinterest & received from my hospital. i will definitely report back post delivery what was & wasn't missing :)
below are a few items i have in my bag:
as for the bag itself, i just went with a rolling carry-on suitcase. nothing fancy!
pregnancy is 99% glam...not!
my linea nigra has darkened.
the skin where i had my naval pierced is insanely dark.
my navel has been out since week 22.
my booty is flatter than ever (what's a squat?).
i have ingrown hair & bumps all over my legs (at least i can still reach to shave my legs).
i have added some extra cottage cheese to my upper thighs (hello cellulite).
my [bigger] bras are tight around my upper ribs & leave marks on my skin by the end of the day.
i have two burn marks from pulling cookie trays out of the oven...on separate occasions (yup).
i am at a point where i am at peace with how my body has evolved.
it may have taken me quite some time mentally to get here, but i'm here. & i'm so happy to be.
i can confidently say that i love how i'm looking & am really proud of what my body is capable of.
i'm so motivated to get back on a more strict meal plan. i have definitely been making an effort to eat clean about 80% of the time while i've been pregnant, however this last month or so, its more like 60% ;) with my energy levels still up, i've been busy prepping meals for once eliott arrives. doesn't hurt to be prepared...no idea what is in store time-wise with this little guy! my freezer is currently stocked with 20 meals which i did in two days. aim to make 10 more this week. why do i enjoy meal prepping so much? ha!
a couple of things i learned from my imago training was to keep my meals small & frequent. i would eat 5x a day with breakfast, lunch, dinner & snacks in between (200-300 cal each). given my plan is to breastfeed, i will be adding another "meal" in there to keep my supply up since on average moms burn near 500 calories breastfeeding. here are a few of my personal recommendations when it comes to prepping...
WEEK + DAY: week 37 day 5 -- posting later than usual so almost at 38!
WEIGHT GAIN: 28 pounds...thanks to the holidays! eliott weighs about 6 pounds & according to my doctor, right on track.
SYMPTOMS: back pain & congestion is a little less now -- thank God! but i've noticed more heartburn & indigestion to the point where i have to sleep a little more elevated. i've had random days of nausea -- first trimester deja vu? my legs & ankles are SO swollen (can't you tell from above?!) -- within a matter of hours, my legs swell (what feels like twice the size) from the time i get up in the morning until lunch time. overall, my body just feels heavy so it's really just a matter of counting down the weeks...ha!
FOOD CRAVINGS: acai bowls. what. the. random. i know. mind you, its also around 40 degrees now in the bay area which is cold for us so i have no idea where this is coming from. but nothing sounds more appetizing than an acai bowl. i dont know. been getting my fix at nekter -- which is amazing because i can order/pay ahead online & select a pick-up time for that day. win. i've found (ok, researched) a few more places around the southbay to try. i even bought ingredients to make my own. & if you know me, i haaaate washing dishes, particularly kitchen gadgets, however am willing to bust out that blender & get my bowl on.
FOOD AVERSIONS: chicken aversion is back. honestly, just meat/poultry in general. i just want seafood! raw oysters, sashimi...almost there.
EXERCISE: being on leave has helped me stay committed to the gym more than during the holiday season. i am able to go 4-5x a week & do my 3 mile walk (3.0-3.5mph // 5.0 incline) within an hour. i'm trying to get back into light weight lifting with Clint but i just listen to my body & do it when i feel like i can. overall, feeling good but not going to lie, it's getting harder. i wonder how long i can keep this up because most days i just want to not go...eeks!
NEW DISCOVERY: as part of my 2016 goals, i want to spend daily (solo) time in the Word. i think my sister may have already shown me this, but i "rediscovered" first5. first5 is an app from proverbs 31 ministries (which i love) tailored to women to spend the first 5 minutes of their day with God. you can set an alarm (mine is set at 8AM) so its simple to keep yourself accountable & read daily. it's so easy to flip through email, facebook, instagram -- any kind of social media -- once you first wake up. this is a great way for me to break that habit & start my morning off right.
LESSONS LEARNED: i knew car seat inspections were by appointment only, but apparently they should be booked 6-8 weeks prior to your due date...oops! luckily we were able to squeeze in & get an early (ahem, 5:30AM) appointment at the CHP in San Jose this coming week. the CHP does it for free (believe it or not, some places charge) & requires you to bring your automobile manual as well as the car seat manual. book in advance, my preggo friends! check seatcheck.org for a location nearest you.
FAVORITE BABY PURCHASES: back on the etsy prowl these days & came across some adorable wood & silicon pacifier clips from louloulollipopfinery. i purchased a neutral wood & white beaded one as well as black & blue ($12, pictured below). i received a hand-me-down bare boppy (i also have a brest friend from my registry) so wanted a more modern slipcover. & wow, there are so many options on etsy, it's crazy! i finally decided on a cover from pigpigla with black & gray geometric triangles ($50, pictured below).
FAVORITE MAMA PURCHASES: i guess this is mama & baby but i loved the concept of the lalabu soothe shirt (pictured below). designed for newborns, it creates a close environment between mama & baby. it also has a built-in nursing bra & isn't too bulky which allows mom to wear as a regular tank. another plus, you have up to 30 days post baby birthdate to return the item if you are not satisfied. i really hope this comes in great use as it's a $70 tank ;)
